words that Stick: Fiction & Non-Fiction

It’s that urge to go in search of pen and paper after just having read something, anything; A word, a sentence, an entire paragraph even. An involuntary pause in the machination that is life, when your eyes glaze over, your heartbeat jumps up a notch, and the penny drops; It’s that eureka moment when you understand and are understood as John Green is quoted having said.

What I’m trying to say has already been said in a better way by Alan Bennett (who wrote the excellent 'An Uncommon Reader' & who was quoted saying, ‘The best moments in reading are when you come across something – a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things – which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours’.

Here are 6 that I have chosen - of course I have loved hundreds and hundreds of phrases but will stick to the self-imposed rule of six that I set out for myself when I started writing this post.
