'The Perfect Mother' by Aimee Molloy is a psychological thriller about a group of new moms in one community who call themselves the 'May Mothers' - the mommy group whose sons were all born in the same month. While on a planned night out, one of their newborns is abducted. What follows is a heart-pounding race to find Midas, during which secrets are exposed, marriages are tested, and friendships are destroyed. Need more convincing? Read on for five more reasons you'll want to read this thriller now!

  1. Riveting plot with a varied cast of characters: the core of this novel revolves around the abduction of Winnie's son, baby Midas. But as the plot evolves and the secret lives of the women (Francie, Colette, Nell) and man (Token) who make up the 'May Mothers' emerge, it becomes increasingly difficult to separate the truths from the lies.
  2. Timely: the US, Canada and Australia are celebrating Mother's Day this Sunday weekend. So what better time to curl up with a book that centres around Motherhood. Trust me, by the time you finish reading this, you'll feel like the most perfect mum EVER! The novel's first chapter even opens on Mother's day (the British one). And while on the subject of Mother's Day, the novel does a great job highlighting the ridiculous expectations placed on new mothers in particular but on mothers in general and the harsh judgments society is only too ready to dish out thanks to societal peer pressure and media bullying.
  3. Film worthy: Rights have already been optioned by Sony/TriStar with Kerry Washington set to star in and produce the adaptation.
  4. Bargain price: At the moment of writing this post, the novel is going for £0.99 on Amazon.co.uk so it's a perfect choice if you're saving up the pennies for the upcoming Summer holidays. And for those of you looking for a Mother's Day gift? You're sorted! And You're welcome!
  5. Excellent reviews: Everyone who's anyone in the book world is raving about this book comparing Molloy to Liane Moriarty (author of 'Big Little Lies') and Paula Hawkins (the author of 'Into the Water').
